December is a wonderful time to showcase the success of our Apprentices. On Friday, December 8th, our Iowa Craft Championships, High School Challenges and Career Day takes place. Learn more in the "Apprenticeship and Education" section below.

We're celebrating another year of membership!
On December 20th, we welcome our members to the ABC Member Holiday Party/Annual Meeting at Hotel Renovo from 4:30-6:30. Beverages and heavy appetizers will be served and some great door prizes will be given away (see them below in "Upcoming Events". We hope to see you there!

Coming up on December 8th at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, ABC of Iowa is proud to be offering our Craft Championships competition. Apprentices from 17 counties in the great state of Iowa will be competing for a chance to advance to the National Competition next March. The event is an outstanding opportunity for apprentices to showcase their knowledge, skills and talents while practicing correct safety practices and procedures.

This same day, ABC of Iowa is giving high school students a chance to experience the trades during our High School Challenge and Career Day.

High schools were invited to enter students or teams of students for competitions in Carpentry, Electrical and Welding. Also, those considering their post-high school plans are invited to visit the Career Day booths featuring the fantastic, hands-on career opportunities in the skilled trades. We are expecting nearly 300 high school students to be in attendance during this year's event.

The first Task Force Meeting took place during National Apprenticeship Week on November 13, 2017 in the U.S. Department of Labor, Francis Perkins Building. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds was in attendance.

In order to promote openness, and increase public participation, a viewing room was be made available for members of the public to observe the meeting proceedings.

The Merit Shop Emerging Leaders Group is designed to cultivate future leaders in the construction industry. The program offers networking events that allow emerging leaders an opportunity to meet and interact with their peers. It also provides sessions where participants can learn new leadership skills and steps taken to achieve their success.

Over 4 sessions, participants take part in team-building workshops, listen to guest speakers and presentations and network with valued industry professionals.

This program admits participants by application only. Applications are due December 29th, 2017.

Establishments with 20-249 employees that are classified in certain industries (which includes Construction) with historically high rates of occupational injuries and illnesses.

Covered establishments with 20-249 employees must electronically submit information from OSHA Form 300A.

The requirement became effective on January 1, 2017. The new reporting requirements will be phased in over two years. In 2017, all covered establishments must submit information from their completed 2016 Form 300A by December 15, 2017,

In 2018, covered establishments with 20-249 employees must submit information from their completed 2017 Form 300A by July 1, 2018. Beginning in 2019 and every year thereafter, covered establishments must submit the information by March 2.

Electrical Exam Prep Class
This course has been approved by the Iowa Electrical Examining Board for 12 hours of Code Continuing Education Hours (CEH).
This course is designed to prepare you for the PSI journeyman and master electrical exams. Whether you are a recent graduate or looking to upgrade a Class B license to a Class A license, this course will give you the tools and information that you need to be confident and successful when you sit for the exam.

All webinars are archived in the members-only Academy for Construction Compliance, Ethics and Best Practices page. Members must complete the online Academy Login Request Form to receive log-in information. The request must come from an ABC member in management or ABC chapter staff.

While ABC webinars are not typically pre-approved for Continuing Education Units (CEUs), ABC can provide a certificate of participation to aid in the process of earning CEUs from another entity. Please note viewing the archived webinars does not qualify, nor does this include Continuing Legal Credits (CLEs).
