Safety Training Evaluation Process
What is STEP?
How do you stack up against the perfect safety culture?
The Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) is an organized approach for analyzing and developing safety and loss prevention programs, that incorporates both OSHA required safety data and self-assessment requirements to give a full, wide-ranging report on the entire nature of your company's safety program(s).
STEP was developed in 1989, written by contractors, for contractors, and is designed to benefit both large and small contractors alike. There is no charge for this service (unless you are applying for STEP Diamond or Platinum), and your responses are strictly confidential.
After completing STEP, you will receive a 20-point guide to starting, updating or auditing your company-wide safety program, as well as a ranking level of achievement.
There are 6 levels of achievement in the STEP program:
Members earning a Bronze-level and above will be recognized at various events throughout the year, including the Annual Excellence in Construction Awards Gala, held each fall, and these achievements can also lead to recognition at the National Safety Excellence Awards, and accreditation as an AQC (Accredited Quality Contractor).
2018 STEP data shows STEP Diamond participants are 670% safer than the BLS average in a number of areas, leading to benefits both when bidding for business and negotiating insurance rates. View the ABC National 2018 Safety Performance Report here.
Congratulations to all celebrating STEP achievements in 2018, and thank you to all who applied for STEP in 2018!
Growth doesn't happen overnight - yearly reviewing of your policies and procedures is key.
Continue to apply for STEP each year, and you'll see incremental change, year after year.
