Statewide Licensing

In 2007 the Iowa Legislature passed legislation setting up statewide licensing for electricians and plumbing/mechanical professionals. If you need help making sure that you are complying with these state laws, we encourage you to contact the appropriate government office.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety oversees electrical licensing, and the Iowa Department of Public Health oversees the plumbing/mechanical licensing. Each department has a website with information about licensing, and staff available to answer your questions.
